CITB GRANTS AND FUNDING

What is the CITB?

CITB stands for Construction Industry Training Board. Their focus is to help attract talent and to support skills development within the construction industry, within England, Scotland and Wales – to ensure Britain has a skilled, competent and inclusive workforce, now and in the future

They are an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Education.

CITB Skills and Training Fund

As of the 30th September 2025, the CITB have closed the Skills & Training Fund and any current funds will stay open until October 2026.

The CITB have introduced Employer Networks as a method of financial support which make the process for funding more streamline and easier to navigate.

Majority of the new funding changes will come into effect 8th January 2026, and some from April 2026. However, courses booked before 8th December 2025 that are completed between 8th January and 31st March 2026 will be honoured at the current grant rate, where evidence is provided of booking date.

What are Employer Networks?

Employer Networks have 2 main objectives:

  • To make it easier for you to access training and funding. The training can be in anything that supports construction employers. These could be the trade skills you need right now or something you’ll need in the future – such as net zero, digital skills or mentoring. And because the Employer Networks fund it, all of the paperwork will be completed by your local Group Training Officer
  • To bring together employers at a local level to inform CITB on training needs, to advise how funding should be prioritised and allocated, and to effectively use training provision to address immediate and future skills needs in their region

How it works? What has changed?

CITB levy-registered companies can claim 50% of the cost from the CITB with the remaining 50% being paid by the employer, as opposed to the previous 70%-30% funding split.
Health and Safety courses will be 30% funded.
First Aid courses will no longer be funded.

Example: Real Costs with 50% Employer Network Funding

Course cost £500 + VAT

50% funding applied from the CITB = CITB pay £250 + VAT

Net cost to your business = £250 + VAT

Training Groups

  • As an employer, you contact your local CITB funded Training Group with any training you need
  • As an employer, you sign up to the Employer Network to ensure you are happy with the Terms and Conditions
  • Your local CITB Training Group will do the rest – source training at preferential rates, book, issue invoices and send out certificates
  • No CITB achievement grants are claimed with this version of funding
